College of Basic and Forensic Medicine is one of the most important teaching and research college in Sichuan University. It was established in 2001, originally from School of Preclinical (founded in 1987) and School of Medical Jurisprudence (founded in 1999) of Western China Medicine University.

Now the college has thirteen teaching and research groups: Human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology and neurobiology, parasitology, microbiology, immunology, physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, forensic pathology, science of medico-legal physical evidence, forensicpsychiatry and analytical toxicology; one university undergraduate teaching laboratory center—basic medical science teaching laboratory center (includes laboratory of functional studies, morphology laboratory, human anatomy laboratory and medical bio-molecular laboratory); two undergraduate program teaching laboratories—preclinical medicine laboratory and forensic medicine laboratory; one national key laboratory—biotherapy for human diseases—human genetics and forensic medicine researching center; one key laboratory of Ministry of Health—chronobiology key laboratory; three Sichuan Provincial key laboratories—application of stem cells researching center, biotherapy for human diseases—human genetics and forensic medicine researching center, medical molecular biology opening laboratory; one university opening laboratory—medical molecular biology opening laboratory; one identification center-- Western China forensic identification center of Sichuan University; two service offices—isotopes and EM; one preclinical pharmacological researching center of new medicine. Our department covers twenty thousandsq.m and holds teaching and researching facility worth over millions. Eighty-eight national programs, one hundred and three provincial programs and ten authorized patents have been undertaken since 2001. We have won 19 national and provincial scientific or technical awards, 107 papers have been recorded by SCI and EI. Over hundreds of postgraduates from our department spread all around the world and many academic core members and talents play more and more important role in their position.

The college has 12 authorized doctor and master degree subjects—physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology, biomedical engineering, human anatomy and tissue embryology, immunology, pathology, pathophysiology, forensic medicine, medical biochemistry and cellular biology, medical neurobiology, medical physiology and chronobiolgy, pharmacology; three post-doctoral stations—basic medicine, biomedical engineering and biology. There are key subjects, such as Biochemistry and molecular biology, pathophysiology, forensic medicine, pathology, human anatomy and tissue embryologyat the provincial level and “Project 211”.
 
The college focuses on the scientific research, persists in the synchronous development of teaching and researching. The great academic environment develops a group of well-known experts and professors such as Chengzhao Liu, the member of Chinese Academy of Science. The college is home to 859 students (including 396 postgraduates); approximate 80 subjects (over 40,000 class hours) of postgraduate and eight or seven-year undergraduate are hold by the college. Human anatomy, histology and embryology, biochemistry and physiology are key subjects at provincial level. One national high-quality course—science of medico-legal physical evidence, eight Sichuan provincial high-quality courses—science of medico-legal physical evidence, histology and embryology, human anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology, forensic medicine and pathophysiology.

There are two hundred and forty-two staffs, forty-three professors and fifty-two vice-professors in campus, including one member of the State Council Academic Degree Committee and Subject Assessing Group, twenty-eight doctoral supervisors, sixty-three master supervisors and sixteen researchers in post-doctoral stations.

Academic communication with other domestic and foreign universities is another critical event in college. Since the 1980s, over two hundred students have been studied abroad, half of them are back to work and become the core members of subjects. The college also receives many domestic and foreign experts or professors to give lectures and academic cooperation every year.
